Digital forensics investigations

Objectives

This course teaches people to forensically retrieve data from mobile phones, computers and other digital storage devices. You will learn how to apply an investigative mindset to interrogating multiple complex data sets, understand their content and its implications, and then present the findings as evidence.

This course is also intended to give digital device examiners exposure to the multiple forensic tools now available, as well as insights into current and upcoming legislative procedures and best practice.

Course Options

The programmes can be taught at the Avatu Academy or at any suitable venue. 

We will need to know if any digital forensic tools are already being used by the organisation and if there’s a need to provide tool specific training.

This course is provided at three levels of complexity:

  • Foundation (one day)
  • Intermediate (three days)
  • Advanced (five days) for law enforcement only
  • Deliverables

    By the end of the course you can expect to:

  • Understand the legislative rules governing digital forensics
  • Understand best practice and guidance for digital forensics
  • Understand how to practice digital forensics to an evidentially robust standard
  • Know how to apply an investigative mind-set in examining and obtaining data from a variety of devices
  • Use appropriate forensic tools and procedures to retrieve data
  • Identify and explain important digital forensic considerations including security and encryption
  • Gain awareness of the leading digital forensic triage and extraction tools (accredited product specific training available on request)

    Police and other investigators who want to use and understand 21st Century investigation techniques. 

    Lead Trainer

    Our lead trainer is an expert on the multiple disciplines of digital investigation with 17 years' UK police service.

    He continues to provide training, guidance and knowledge in his specialist field and is often consulted during the most complex, high profile criminal and cyber investigations.

    He is a superb operational user of, and trainer in, digital media investigation techniques, including the use of communications data, digital forensics & open source intelligence.
